Earlier this month I made no bones about what I thought about Mark Recchi using his agent to bitch and moan about the veteran being a healthy scratch before the winger was eventually claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Thrashers. Obviously upset that he was not getting playing time the tandem lashed out in a way that you would not expect someone often though of as a “class act” to do. But the facts were clear and simple - Recchi was not producing so he was benched.
Has Recchi’s Selfishness Now Hurt His Former Team?
Conklin Blanks Sabres, Pens Win 2-0
Ty Conklin got the call again and he answered with another stellar performance in lieu of the injured Mark Andre Fleury. In a game that was perhaps the best I’ve seen this season, the Pens and the Sabres played a fast pasted, high energy game for most of sixty minutes.
Pens Overcome: Beat Caps 4-3 in OT
In regulation Sergei Gonchar had two assists but they were on Capitals goals where he turned the puck over around his own net. Those miscues around Ty Conklin gave the Capitals more life than they should have had.
Pens Down Bruins 3-1
On Sunday the Pittsburgh Penguins set a new club record for straight sellouts -31. The old record of 30 came at the end of the 1988-89 and beginning of the 1989-1990 season. And while the Penguins fans have shown up night after night, the same cannot be said of the Penguins themselves.
Cardiac Kids Ride Again!
Well, here we go again! Shades of last season, the Cardiac kids needed a shootout to beat the Boston Bruins after running out to a dominating 4-0 lead. After a pair of goals by Malkin (12, 13), one by His Sidness (16) and another by Christensen (4), the Penguins allowed the Bruins back into the game and after two power play goals, a short handed tally and one more at even strength the game was tied 4-4 at the end of regulation.
